The project framing
within the priority research fields of the National Strategy
The proposed
investment project is represented by the accomplishment of a GRID site by
building a cluster of at least 72 processors with a computational power
of about 72 kSI2K and a storage capacity of about 7 Tb. Other features
are related to easy maintenance, data backup, backup power supply and
air-conditioning.
The GRID will be
compatible with similar projects financed by the European Framework
Programs and will comply with the specifications of the CERN memorandum
regarding resources allocated for the WLCG project.
The proposed project
is thus framed inside the priority field 1: Information Technology and
Communication. Given the fact that it will allow high performance
distributed processing, the proper investment, the computer cluster, is
framed inside Technology for distributed systems and embedded systems
(1.6).
Further effects of
the investment, the researches that will be performed using this grid,
will be framed inside the fields named below:
- Advanced Informatics
Systems for e-services (1.2)
- Communication technology,
systems and infrastructures (1.3)
- Artificial Intelligence,
Robotics and Advanced autonomous systems (1.4)
- Security and
accessibility of informatics systems (1.5)
The project
framing within the fundamental objectives of Program 2 - Capacities
The project proposes
the achievement of an investment that has as main objective the
acquisition and putting into service of a powerful computers cluster
which will represent the central unit of a high performance GRID. This is
in full conformity with the general objective of the PNCD II program
"the developing of the research infrastructure" of the higher
education public institutions, in this particular case the "Štefan
cel Mare" University from Suceava, and its potential users. The GRID
will allow researchers to work with high performance equipment under an
environment of good quality management.
By having a modern
grid that will be interconnected with European networks, the University of Suceava
will have something important to offer in establishing new European and
regional partnerships and the degree in which Romania is involved in
research, development and innovation programs will increase.
